11am-12pm, repeated 3-4pm

The King Arrives The King and all the characters make a grand entrance at the porte cochère leading into the Royal Pavilion. Once inside, they will conduct everyone to the extravagant Music Room where all will be invited to join in dancing for the King’s amusement.

12-3pm You will encounter the various characters as you follow the visitor route through the lavish state and entertainment rooms inside the Pavilion, with the chance to chat, flirt and find out about life in 1823.

The characters you will meet are:

King George IV
Although in his mature years, George has been monarch for only the last three. Have too many years without real responsibility created an eccentric spendthrift or have the years of stress and struggle forged a King who is a creative visionary?

Lady Conyngham
Beautiful, shrewd and greedy, it is believed that this lady has been the King’s mistress for two years or so. Is it just coincidence that her attractive husband is Lord Steward of the King’s Household?

Mrs Portman
This well-to-do merchant’s wife lives locally - on the fashionable side of the Steine - and remembers the town before the King and his friends made it so. Is this upwardly mobile busybody the sort of person to be admitted to the intimate world of the King? Will her visit to the Pavilion confirm what she has heard about royal scandalous living?

Mr Holmes
A page of the back stairs – which means this avaricious gentleman is a member of the Royal Household, with intimate access to the King. Servants of his rank must surely deserve the trust placed in them … mustn’t they?

Additionally – a musician will be in attendance to play at the request of the king.

Free with entry ticket (current admission charges apply), no booking necessary.
