Anthony Lam is a photographic artist who is primarily concerned with interrogating,
exploring and expanding his own relationship with and to the photographic image.
His practice is concerned with producing representations that address issues of
identity, culture and representation from a personal and socio-political viewpoint.
Anthony's most recent commissions include Port
of Call 2002 (British Council) which uses the Government's 2002 White paper
on nationality and immigration Secure Borders,
Safe Haven: Integration with Diversity in Modern Britain as the reference
point for a photographic exploration into issues of identity, the psychology of
borders and migration; and HeadSpace (Chinese
Arts Centre) in which Lam processes his own feelings and responses to a space
(Hong Kong) that is physical, emotional and conceptual, metaphorically mirroring
in reverse his father's journey to and relation with another space (UK).
He has exhibited work in Hong Kong, USA and the UK and spent considerable time
in the 1990s working in China and Hong Kong. Work featured in previous publications
includes Notes from the Street (Camerawork 1995) and Different (Phaidon 2001).
His formal training includes an MA in Photography from the London College of Printing.
