The Royal Pavilion Revealed

   

Behind the Scenes


A unique opportunity to discover some of the areas of the building not usually open to the public. This connoisseurs' tour takes in the servants’ staircases, hidden corridors and the famous underground tunnel. Followed by tea/coffee and biscuits in the Queen Adelaide Tearoom with a chance to talk to the guides.
Please note the underground tunnel is not always accessible.

For groups of 10-20. £18 per person includes admission, introductory talk, tour and tea/coffee and biscuits in the Queen Adelaide Tearoom.

Basement to Bottle


Visit the interior of the roof dome, the famous underground tunnel and other hidden places. This tour includes some steep steps. Followed by tea/coffee and biscuits in the Queen Adelaide Tearoom with a chance to talk to the guides.

The Conservation Tour


The restoration of the Royal Pavilion commenced in the mid-19th century following the purchase of the Palace from Queen Victoria by the town in 1850. Learn about the different phases of the restoration, and how the conception of restoration has evolved over the last 100 years.

A Regency Garden Restored (Summer only)


The perfect setting for the Prince Regent's bold Royal Pavilion, after 200 years of fluctuating fortunes and fashions the gardens have been restored to their Regency splendour. Garden tour visitors enjoy 10% off garden-related merchandise in the Royal Pavilion gift shop.

Dandies and Decadence


Focusing on Beau Brummell, the Prince Regent and other men who revolutionised dress, grooming and the stylish essence of the English gentleman, we look at their influences, their habits, haunts, hairstyles, fads and fashions. 

For groups of up to 35. £75 per group plus admission to the Pavilion. Upgrade your visit to include a guided tour of the Pavilion for £40.

Antonin Careme and Haute cuisine


The Prince Regent brought to Brighton the French celebrity chef, Antonin Carême. Find out about his amazing life and his contribution to the long history of French gastronomy. Haute cuisine was invented for Royalty which, helped by 'Gourmet King' George IV, was eventually exported throughout Europe. This talk will take you from the origins of haute cuisine to modern French cuisine.

The History of Brighton


This illustrated talk looks at two hundred and fifty years of Brighton’s history and the impact and changes brought to the town by the Royal Pavilion.  The fashion for sea-bathing, development of transport links, fishing, the Victorian era, all are covered in a half-hour talk followed by a tour of the building’s ground floor.

Brighton and India


Why is the exterior of the Royal Pavilion designed in an Indian style? This talk focuses on the origins of the link between Brighton and India, which gave an exotic touch to the seaside resort.

Leisure and tourism talk


A look at the building as a tourist attraction. The Royal Pavilion attracts 360,000 visitors per year – How is it run and organised?  Who works here?  How do we encourage people to visit the Royal Pavilion and what can they do when they get here?   How do we make sure visitors are happy with their experience?  All covered in a half-hour talk followed by a tour of the building’s ground floor.
